Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), every child with a recognized disability must be given the Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) he or she deserves, and schools must provide this education in the least restrictive environment appropriate. The core of IDEA is the creation and implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) by educators working closely with parents.

However, the IEP process can be intimidating and confusing for parents, who may not always feel like equal partners in determining their child’s educational future.
